Been considering the costumes designs for Mimi and I think I was most on board with the 3rd design.

Still considering whether to add stripes for that "carnival" feel. Also considering hat shape, as the floppy one I think looks too relaxed, maybe.

Also: TRAVELLING outfit - poncho (still decide colour + width) 

I like the idea of her being completely impractical

BASED ON   "Con men", scam artists (for want of a better term), Billy Flynn (Chicago), Harold Hill (The Music Man), also slightly Madeline (Always Fair Weather)

Not a villain, decides to stop scams after join Oak&Co, learns to helps others without ulterior motives

Running away from angry town after they realised she was pulling a scam on them

Almost as tall as Oak (all in the legs)

Probably needs a "show" name

The examples mentioned before, both wear quite a bit of red (similar to Enjolras in Les Mis, but he didnt scam people) and since I wanted to keep red to Oak's town I went with red's best friend, pink.

I like using pink here cause her design makes me think of carnivals and sugar/fairy floss, and by ott with it, it gives that kind of  "salesperson"/advertisement feel to it too, which relates to Madeline's hostess character.

The split in Madeline's dress also go towards the amount of leg showing in the design.

When things don't go right, I stick to costume design.

"travelling" outfits, after they've left the little town, so almost completely devoid of red and black

Focus on:

Oakley:

Not sure about PANTS colour, maybe navy blue?

blue gingham + red = dorothy

red, kept from town, hasn't completely left

cardigan = preppy look

coat instead?? too high class?

blue = passive

Ela:

inspired by Roman Holiday but with more of a dramatic spin to the white shirt/big brown skirt combo

"dramatic" design similar to 1950's sewing pattern I found

scarf = gives more movement, keeps warm, reference to scarf in her "town outfit"

yellow = energetic, exciting

socks = on the move, preppy

gloves?? too high class?

long sleeves ruins shape

Marco:

more relaxed version of previous outfit, set on what he likes

lines = movement

helmets: extra helmets for passengers Oakley and Ela

 I wanted to do some costume stuff but I didn't want to fuss around with anatomy right now, so for now I'm doing a more "vector" based look for costume design.

Oakley
I always pictured red being part of the people who live in the small town, to go with the big red curtain at the entrance, so I think I'd like that to be part of Oakley's costume. It feels odd though...like, thinking colour theory wise and what colours mean, and for Oakley red is kinda opposite to his doormat personality (which is why I tried out blue as well), but I guess that would emphasis how he doesn't fit in with his town.

Also I think they'll change costume when they start travelling more to something more casual, and I think the clothes he picks them would be colours that reflect him better.

(Town Outfit, if I don't use just red, I think this would be a nice template for the extras and other town male characters to wear)

Lea (...I'm thinking of changing her name to Ela)

As the "Understudy" she's just going to be a variation of whatever Oakley wears in the town, and outside the town opposite to what Oakley wears. So hers is going to be the last costume to do, but for now a possible outfit to go with Oakley's red, black and white with overalls look

Marco
Arrrrrrgh, this one's annoying, but I think it needs to look more down to earth then the other two, and show that he likes to travel and that he's rebellious.
However, the rebellious "Beat Generation" of the time was namely wearing a lot of black, which makes him look like he already a member of the town. (And when he's a temporary Stage-hand he's going to be in all black...I think he's going to have 3 outfits to do)

Some Costume Ideas - Oakley and Lea

Experimenting - Style - Costume

This is actually for my other class this term Motion Graphics, where I'm doing a title sequence for "Singin' In The Rain". However it was a bit of experimenting and planning of a style that I'll most likely use in my planning stages, like the last post with the style of hair.

The next image is more of the same, but just general style practice.

I like doing costumes and fashion this way as it's quick and efficiently and it really just focuses on the clothes with only a hint of a pose of the body.
