COLOUR SCRIPT // Experiment - Rope - Comics Style

This is a bit odd but I thought I'd try it out.
It's a bit like a comic book but it's just one thing happening
(Marco pulling some crazy pulley system to help Ela to see the "outside world")

PRACTICE // Pretty Trees

An attempt at a lovely whimsical "Campion" type of tree

Did it really quickly so it's a pretty bald empty tree but I think I could speed up style up if I did a template of individual leaves and just copied from there, a lot of layers but a lot time would be saved.

SCRIPT DESIGN // First Meet

 Colour scripting is fucking hard

This is just a non-textured/collage attempt, but yeah, it doesn't feel right.

But for now,

First Meeting

Oak peering out of the curtains to find Marco staring bewilderedly at the town's entrance

I'm not sure about the light beams
(manufactured spotlight for Oak, natural sun light beams for Marco)
I like how they look passing over the trees, but it'd a bit odd when they meet up in the middle

SCRIPT DESIGN // Marco's Timetable

I don't love this
...but it was my first shot at collaging a landscape. Since I'm not as familiar with landscapes I guess it's to be expected.

SCENE
trio secretly hanging out during free time, in the afternoon

THINGS
wood panel stairs
plywood bush prop
metal texture (w/o/base) for scaffolding
leaves for trees (trunks left just base)
marco's scribbles (i like the idea of him constantly writing on props to remember things and to talk to ela and oak

Char. Design // All - Teddy Newton Style

After looking at "The Incredibles" art book, I discovered that I really liked Teddy Newton's collage style and tried it out on my own characters.
Working with this style feels really freeing, with less focus on proportions or anatomy and more on just focusing on shapes, colours and textures.

Set Design - Experiment

An oak tree for Oakley.

It's an interesting look...but not really the look I'm going for, or the scope, feels very cramped and hasn't got everything I was planing in it...so, not sure on the success of this one, but it's a start.

I did use a lot of photo referencing and use of different brushes to create different effects.

Char. Design - "Polo" - Style

Drawing dogs is hard.
Especially little ones, I keep finding refs. for large breeds which isn't helpful at all.
But I'll persevere because I always pictured Marco with a tag-along stray dog, with a kinda "Toto" feel/reference.
Calling it "Polo" for lack of a much much better name, for now.

Char. Design - Oakley - Various

It's not totally correct or right but I've officially started designing!

Quick Thoughts for Oakley's face
Focus on:
Hair (Keep as soft curves, curl in or out?)
Nose Shape (no idea)
Eyes
Adam's Apple (focus on singing)
Face Length/Shape (probably longer next time)

Some Debating Over Eye Style
Either normal Disney style with frames around pupils
or
More classic 50's style, also Fred Moore style

Proportions
Focus on:
Legs

(This is really out of character, but I wanted to look at exaggerating leg length, I've gotta feel more daring and keep going with that I think)
(The pants make him look way too old)
